FRS organizes repatriation from Morocco

Tarifa • On Friday, July 3rd, FRS carried out a trip to repatriate mainly German citizens and people of other northern European nationalities who were in the country after the border closure ordered by Morocco last March. The crossing was made by the FRS ferry Kattegat, which carried about 300 passengers and 180 vehicles from the port of Tangier Med to Algeciras.

Upon arrival in Algeciras, the citizens transported by FRS were able to continue their journey through Spain to their home countries. The organization of this repatriation operation is the result of aclose collaboration with the German embassy in Rabat, which made it possible to mitigate a situation that had held citizens of various nationalities, mainly Germans, in Morocco during all these months.

Last May, FRS already organized a repatriation operation for British citizens, 57 from Gibraltar and 25 from Great Britain, who were also stranded in Morocco after the border was closed.

FRS is the only shipping company that serves all routes in the Strait of Gibraltar. In 2019, it carried more than 1.9 million passengers, 88,000 vehicles and 114,000 freight units.

In the region of northern Germany, the FRS Helgoline with its catamaran connection with the "Halunder Jet" from Hamburg and Cuxhaven to Helgoland and the Rømø-Sylt line (Sylt Ferry) are particularly well known. The Rømø-Sylt line is the maritime connection to Sylt: The double-ended ferries "SyltExpress" and "RömöExpress" go from Havneby on Rømø to List on Sylt and bring passengers and any kind of vehicle to the island in about 40 minutes.
