6th FRS Helgoline Music Cruise featuring “Tocotronic” on September 12, 2026, on Heligoland

Hamburg / Heligoland, May 29, 2026 – “With Tocotronic, we’re bringing one of the most influential bands in the German indie rock scene to Heligoland for this year’s FRS Helgoline Music Cruise. Even the journey on the HSC ‘Halunder Jet’ is part of the experience and makes the concert on the island an extraordinary event overall,” says Tim Kunstmann, Managing Director of FRS Helgoline.

The Journey Itself: A Unique Concert Experience

On the Music Cruise, the concert experience begins during the crossing aboard the HSC “Halunder Jet.” The journey is deliberately integrated into the event concept: During the trip, a support act on board provides the musical prelude. The combination of the boat trip, the onboard program, and the Tocotronic concert on Germany’s only offshore island makes the Music Cruise an extraordinary event on the German festival calendar. “The experience begins the moment you board the ship and creates a special atmosphere surrounding the concert,” Kunstmann continued. “The experience begins the moment you board the ship and creates a special atmosphere surrounding the concert,” Kunstmann continued.

Indie Rock on the High Seas

For more than three decades, Tocotronic has been among the most influential representatives of German-language indie rock. With their distinctive sound, clear stances, and intense live performances, they have shaped generations of music fans. The concert on Heligoland offers a unique backdrop and a deliberately intimate setting. The closeness between the band and the audience is an integral part of the event’s concept. “Tocotronic on Heligoland promises a concert experience with a unique atmosphere. This concert is the perfect addition to our diverse 2026 event program—both for us as an island and for all our guests,” says Katharina Schlicht, Heligoland’s Director of Tourism. “We are thrilled that Heligoland, as a destination, will be part of this special live event.”

From the Elbe metropolis to the Nordseehalle

The exclusive concert shuttle departs on September 12, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. from the Hamburg Landungsbrücken, with a stop in Cuxhaven (departure: 11:30 a.m.). Arrival on Heligoland is scheduled for approximately 12:45 p.m. The concert begins at 4:30 p.m., and the return trip departs via Cuxhaven at 8:00 p.m., arriving in Hamburg around 11:45 p.m.

The Music Cruise’s Success Story Continues

Over the past few years, the FRS Helgoline Music Cruise has established itself as a staple of the cultural calendar. Acts such as Fettes Brot, Thees Uhlmann & Band, Kettcar, and most recently the DONOTS have regularly drawn sold-out crowds. High demand is expected again this year. In the past, tickets have always sold out quickly.

The event is organized by FRS Helgoline in cooperation with Helgoland Tourism Service and the Grand Hotel van Cleef.

Combined tickets (ferry + concert) will be available online starting June 1, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at www.frs-helgoline.de. They will also be available at the FRS Helgoline ticket counter on Heligoland, where concert-only tickets will also be sold

About FRS in Flensburg

Over the past 150 years, the FRS Reederei Group, headquartered in Flensburg, has evolved from a regional passenger shipping company into an internationally active corporate group with over 1,500 employees. FRS operates 70 ships worldwide. Today, the portfolio of the FRS Group, based in northern Germany, includes 14 operating subsidiaries headquartered in Europe, North America, and the Caribbean.

Since January 2025, two ferry routes on the Middle Rhine have been part of the FRS Group. Furthermore, FRS operates various solar-electric ferries in Berlin and, with the “Hydrocat 55,” has the world’s first dual-fuel hydrogen CTV in operation in the offshore wind sector. The FRS Group’s broad portfolio and international presence underscore its significance as a leading provider of shipping connections worldwide.

A Brief Profile of Heligoland

The offshore island of Heligoland, which belongs to the Pinneberg district in Schleswig-Holstein, lies about 60 km off the German coast and is more than just an island.

Every year, around 290,000 visitors come to “slow down” and experience Heligoland’s uniqueness in a truly impressive way. The North Sea health resort of Heligoland offers allergy sufferers what is likely Germany’s lowest-pollen climate, allowing them to breathe freely. For ornithologists, Heligoland is a must-see: around 240 bird species, including common guillemots, northern gannets, black-legged kittiwakes, and fulmars, use the island as a resting or breeding ground between spring and fall. Germany’s largest predator, the gray seal, transforms the neighboring island of Düne into one of Germany’s largest birthing grounds during the winter months. Along the Winter Nature Trail, visitors can witness the births of gray seal pups live as an impressive natural spectacle.
