FRS Launches Brand New River Tours in Lisbon
Global ferry and shipping operator FRS, based in Flensburg, Germany, continues to expand its operations in Southern Europe. FRS recently won a 5-year tender from the tourism organization "Associação de Turismo de Lisboa" (ATL) to operate one of eight ticket offices at a new pier on the Tagus River, located in the heart of Lisbon. FRS’ latest subsidiary, FRS Portugal, will offer guests up to four daily round-trip river tours including a special "Sunset Cruise".
The river cruises on the Tagus are expected to attract visitors and locals alike, guiding guests to optimal sights of the city's most beautiful vistas. From the unique river perspective, guests can enjoy a direct view of the equestrian statue in the Square of Commerce, which represents King Dom José I, as well as the triumphal arch facing the Rua Augusta. The spectacular suspension bridge Ponte 25 de Abril, the Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology and the Monument of Discoveries are additional photoworthy highlights on the panoramic trip along with the Belem Lighthouse, the Tower of Belém and the Christo Rei statue.
FRS Portugal is expected to begin operating its Tagus river tours on May 15th but is dependent upon the opening of the pier by the Associação de Turismo de Lisboa. "We are very excited about our new river excursion tours as Lisbon continues to be a top-ranked tourist destination undergoing significant development across many maritime and tourism related projects,” said Moritz Bruns, Director Business & Corporate Development and Managing Director of FRS Portugal Unipessoal LDA. “With a combined investment of 27 million euros, the city of Lisbon, together with the ATL tourism organization, has completely redesigned the waterfront promenade in the city center including the installation of the new pier and passenger terminal ticket offices. We are proud to be able to help shaping this journey as FRS Portugal," said Bruns.
The motor vessel "Hanseblick" will be transported from Germany to Portugal to operate FRS Portugal’s Tagus river tours. The 37m vessel recently finished service in the Wolfsburg Autostadt and fits perfectly into the capital of Portugal’s burgeoning waterfont. The "Hanseblick" has a capacity of 160 guests on 37m length and is ideal as a convertible aqua cabrio for excellent panoramic tours on the Tagus. Under the open sky, guests can fully enjoy the charisma of the lively city, along with assorted snacks and drinks included with a ticket. At the end of April, the "Hanseblick" will be loaded onto a cargo vessel in Bremerhaven before embarking on a five day transfer voyage to Portugal.
