Characteristic of the Windcat vessels is the patented Windgrip system developed by Windcat Workboats which provides advantages in regard to accessability of the turbines, profitability and flexibility. Via a winch the CTV is connected to the boatlanding which increases the bollard push by up to 9 tons. In turn, this improves the transition possbility as well as safety during high wave periods.
Experiences gathered on 29 ships that use Windgrip show that up to 300 litres of fuel can be saved daily. Additionally, the increased stability is beneficial for Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) operations, loading cranes as well as divers. Therefore, the Windgrip system won the “Renewable UK Health and Safety Award” in 2016.

The crew transfer vessels Windcat 28, Windcat 34XL, Windcat 35, Windcat 42, Windcat 43, Windcat 101 and Windspeed 7 are currently in operation for the daily transfer to the turbines in various different offshore windparks in the German and Danish North and Baltic Sea.
